Micro Grid

A microgrid is a group of interconnected loads and distributed energy resources within clearly defined electrical boundaries that acts as a single controllable entity with respect to the grid and that connects and disconnects from such grid to enable it to operate in both grid-connected or ‘island’ mode.

It’s All About Resilience

1. Impact of climate change

2. Forecasting

3. Probabilistic planning

4. Integrated Data and data analytics

5. Design practices, Infrastructure hardening

6. Targeted approaches

7. Customer and community resilience

8. Value of Resilience

9. Increased importance due to electrification

Microgrid as part of Advanced Energy Community

  • It provides for the highly efficient integration of low cost and clean energy
  • Provides critical infrastructure that increases resilience and reliability
  • It improves the stable operation of the regional electric grid
  • Reduces the grid “congestion” and peak loads
  • Offers grid services such as energy and ancillary services.
  • Integrate CHP, renewables, thermal and electric storage and advanced system and building controls.
  • Offer grid services including: energy, capacity and ancillary services
  • Support places of refuge in regional crises and first responders
  • Utilize local energy resources and jobs
  • Diversified risk rather than concentrated risk
  • Using electric and thermal storage capabilities microgrid can provide local management of variable renewable generation, particularly on-site solar.
  • Properly designed, a regional power grid that combines both large central plants and distributed microgrids can be built with less total capital cost and higher capacity factor on all assets and higher reliability.
