The SAtComm Project: European Smart Energy Systems.

Webinar Title: The SAtComm Project: European Smart Energy Systems. Developing a more adaptable, sustainable, and resilient energy network is critical to lowers emissions, reduce waste, and improve overall power quality. A look at the similarities & differences between Spain and Ireland.

Date & Time: Thursday 11th December at 2pm GMT – Register Here

The SAtComm project is about giving Energy Communities the tools they need to be in control of their energy and actively contribute to making our energy systems cleaner. New rules from the European Union are making individual energy users more central in the shift towards cleaner energy. However, each country in the EU is adopting these rules in its own way, which is making it challenging for Energy Communities to have a significant impact on this transition.

SAtComm plans to look into the rules in four regions (Ireland, Spain, France & Portugal), create and use technologies that work for everyone, and make sure they’re sustainable. This way, all sorts of energy users, from industries to homes, will have the power to do things like trade energy directly with each other, manage their energy use wisely, shift when they use electricity, and store energy in batteries. The project will test these technologies in rural and coastal areas in all four regions, and the lessons learned will be shared so that other Energy Communities can use them as a guide to adopting similar smart energy concepts.

In Ireland, the project is being led by South East Technological University (SETU) and Sean Lyons will share the Irish perspective. Professor Ricardo Guerrero-Lemus from the University of La Laguna in Spain, one of the SAtComm partners, is a recognised expert in Collective Self Consumption systems and will share developments in Spain.

The objective of this webinar is to showcase how the relevant Directives are being practically implemented in Spain and how Ireland can leverage this to ensure regulatory mechanisms are transposed to enable best returns.
